The Guy behind This Blog...

I have worked consistently in the field of education for the past 7 years. It has definitely been an interesting journey; nonetheless, I would not change it for the world. As an educator and a life-long learner, I have encountered various men and women who have inspired me by their examples of dedication and commitment, patience and love, and strength and power. Ultimately, their passion and drive has moved me to become a source of encouragement to the many youths and educators I encounter everyday.

I became a teacher because I wanted to help youths gain a strong foundation to help them establish a better life for themselves. In short: I want my students to become greater than me. Like many of my students, I grew up in an environment where gang violence was rampant in my neighborhood and peer pressure to use drugs and have sex were constantly a focus and topic of discussion. At one point, I actually thought that my life would become no better than the people I knew in my neighborhood. However, my life changed due to the teachers placed in my path. These men and women believed in me and motivated me to be better than my environment. If it were not for my family’s support and my teachers not giving up on me, I believe my life would be different.

I believe teaching is more than a job. It is a profession that can change a person’s destiny. I became a teacher because I want to make a difference in someone’s life. After listening to many of my students, I have already seen the importance of me being a teacher. For many of my students, I will be the first Black male instructor they will ever encounter in their lives. For some of my students this will change their lives forever because they will see a strong intelligent Black male role-model who does not fit the stereotypes in the media.
